Climbing Cayambe Volcano is a challenging experience. This adventure starts at the parking lot of the Cayambe Ecological Reserve (4800 m / 15092 ft.) with a hike to the refuge.
The climb begins at night time so that when you reach the summit, you can watch the sunrise, having spectacular views of the andean avenue. The climbing departs from the refuge (4800m) and the day before the climb you have a trek to the refuge, with a glacier practice (depends on weather). The climb begins at night time so that when you reach the summit you can watch the sunrise, having spectacular views of the andean Avenue of the Volcanoes. The climbing begins at the refuge (4800 m) and the day before the climb you have a hike to the refuge, followed by a practice on the glacier.
Climbing at this altitude is very difficult so we recommend two different things: first, be acclimatized to an altitude of 3000 m / 9843 ft, and second, climbing twice at around 5000 m / 16404 ft. in the same week.
If you don’t know where you can do this ask for our acclimatization packages! We have great deals, and it goes without saying that taking the package increases the probability of reaching the top. Since Cayambe has its own micro-climate, you must be prepared with warm clothes.
