Climbing Cotopaxi volcano is a unique exciting experience. This adventure starts at the parking lot of Cotopaxi National Park (4600 m / 15092 ft.) with a hike to the refuge.
The climb begins at night time so that when you reach the summit, you can watch the sunrise, having spectacular views of Quito to the north, and Tungurahua and Chimborazo to the south. The climb begins from Jose Rivas refuge (4800 m) and the day previous to the climb you have a hike to the refuge, followed by climbing practice at the glacier.
Climbing at this altitude is very difficult so we recommend two different things: first, be acclimatized to an altitude of 3000 m / 9843 ft., and second, climbing twice to around 5000 m / 16404 ft. in the same week.
If you don’t know where you can do this ask for our acclimatization packages! We have great deals, and it goes without saying that taking the package increases the probability of reaching the top. Since Cotopaxi has its own micro-climate, you must be prepared with warm clothes.
